by mariaschneider on October 26, 2009

This is an excerpt from a post I recently wrote for Mashable: 15 Twitter Users Shaping the Future of Publishing.

imagesA lively ongoing conversation is taking place on Twitter about where the publishing industry is headed. With digital media overshadowing its legacy media counterpart, publishers are struggling to figure out pricing, digital rights issues and how to market digital content. These are similar to the struggles the music industry has faced over the past few years.

Here are 15 Twitter users I turn to for news and insight about how old school publishing is meeting its digital future. By following these publishing innovators, you can follow — and even participate in — the industry’s conversations as they take place in real-time.

Get the full list here.

And feel free to suggest more good Twitter follows for publishing trends.

Why not publish some of those Tweets (in real time) along with the books at the point of sale? It would give readers the book community experience at the point of sale, which is the tipping point for buying for many readers. See example of how this is done at http://www.SmartSymbols.com/demo.html
