Editor Unleashed 25 Best Writing Blogs 2009

by mariaschneider on September 8, 2009

Writers, you nominated and voted on your favorite writing blogs and here are the results. Several weeks ago I began asking for nominations for the best writing blogs. More than 170 blogs were nominated. From the nominations, I culled a list of 50 writing blogs in 5 categories and put them up for popular vote on the forum.

Hundreds of writers participated in voting. Other than me breaking a few ties, the blogs listed here are the ones nominated and voted on by the Editor Unleashed community. Thanks so much for participating.

Thanks for doing this! This is a great group.

Laura 09.08.09 at 11:03 am

Thanks for your work with this. Congratulations to InkyGirl, my own favourite. I’m going to try to read all the blogs on that list.

glecharles 09.08.09 at 11:17 am

I’m honored and flattered to be included on this list. Also, I now have several new blogs to add to Google Reader. Thanks!

Victoria Strauss 09.08.09 at 11:24 am

Very cool to find myself included on this list–thanks so much! And a great list overall, which I’ll be sharing.

mariaschneider 09.08.09 at 11:29 am

Thanks all. @Guy and Victoria, it’s much-deserved. Keep up the good work on behalf of writers!

The Adventurous Writer 09.08.09 at 11:37 am

What an honor — thank you for including Quips & Tips for Successful Writers, Maria!

I’m indebted to whoever nominated me……must put on my detective’s hat (which, luckily, is part of every freelance writer’s wardrobe) and figure out who to thank :-)

Thursday Bram 09.08.09 at 11:41 am

Wow! I’m so honored to be on this list. Thanks for running the polling and everything, Maria.

Sandra Gulland 09.08.09 at 12:06 pm

Bravo, InkyGirl!

Cheryl Barker 09.08.09 at 12:15 pm

Thanks, Maria, for all the great links. Congrats to all the winners and a special “Woohoo” for Rachelle Gardner!

Susan Johnsston 09.08.09 at 12:54 pm

Thanks, Maria, and congrats to the other bloggers. I’ve long been a fan of Thursday, Lori, Laurie, and Jenny, so I’ll have to check out the others!

Dan Holloway 09.08.09 at 1:03 pm

I am utterly delighted two of my nominees made it. And doubly honoured that both How Publishing Really Works and Loudpoet have had me as a guest blogger in the last month. Two of the finest blogs – and the finest people (Jane Simth and Guy LeCarles Gonzalez) in the blogosphere.

Linda 09.08.09 at 1:18 pm

Wow! I’m honored to be included on this list. So many cool blogs. I’ve had a tremendous time visiting many blogs nominated last week, and now have a bunch more to add to my google reader.

Thank you to my readers – you make blogging so worthwhile. Peace, Linda

Iain Broome 09.08.09 at 1:19 pm

I’m delighted Write for Your Life made the list and really appreciate all the support people have given me and the blog since we started up at the turn of the year. As my readers already know, I’m currently doing some final edits on my novel, but there’s so much in store for Write for Your Life and this is just the start. Big plans ahoy!

Thanks Maria!

Ray Rhamey 09.08.09 at 1:48 pm

Many thanks to all the folks that voted for Flogging the Quill. You made my day. Best, Ray

Jane Smith 09.08.09 at 2:52 pm

I am having to try very hard indeed not to go all squeally here.

My blog made it to the final list!

There’s no way it’s going to win, of course: the others in the category are way more impressive than my little attempt. But thank you, so much, all of you who nominated me.

And if I had to select one winner from them all, it would be Writer Beware. They work so hard, and are rewarded with law-suits. Which they win, of course, but still: they deserve our praise more than anyone.

Many thanks to Maria for organising this. Now please excuse me while I go off and squeal and run around in fangirl circles, shouting unintelligible things.

Deb Ng 09.08.09 at 3:06 pm

Thank you so much for including me on this list, it’s an honor to be included among such terrific blogs.

Maria Schneider 09.08.09 at 3:11 pm

@Jane Smith, This is the final list, no more narrowing down after this!

moonrat 09.08.09 at 3:36 pm

Hey! Thanks for the mention!! And look at the good company!

Jane Smith 09.08.09 at 3:52 pm

Oh! I thought that things went on from here, until you’d narrowed it down to just one blog!

Well. I still think that Writer Beware would win hands-down if that were the case: they get sued, and have threats made against them, and all sorts of nasty stuff and yet they continue to blog. All I do is write a few posts every now and then.

I am absolutely thrilled to have been included in this list!

Maria Schneider 09.08.09 at 3:56 pm

I completely agree that Writer Beware is an amazing resource.

Anthony Buccino 09.08.09 at 4:25 pm

I’m going to make a folder and put all these links in a drop-down menu.

Thanks to all who participated.

Paul C 09.08.09 at 5:16 pm

This is a wonderful list of sites, the gems in the mud of a crowded blogosphere. I congratulate the award winners and look forward in going through the list more carefully over the next several weeks. Thanks.

Dana Lynn Smith 09.08.09 at 5:45 pm

I’m so glad to see The Creative Penn on this list — Joanna does such a terrific job of providing solid marketing and publishing advice to authors.

Dana Lynn Smith, the Savvy Book Marketer

Alan 09.08.09 at 7:59 pm

It’s a real honour to be included in such august company! Great list, another great job by Editor Unleased. Well done, Maria, and thanks.

Alan 09.08.09 at 9:21 pm

BTW, do we get a badge?

:)

Cafe Pasadena 09.09.09 at 12:23 am

W/O cking each blog listed, this seems like an excellent, if not the very best, list of writing sources in the blogosphere!

The Bookwright 09.09.09 at 2:16 am

What a great list – thanks for sharing

I can highly recommend the Creative Penn – a really excellent resource

Maria 09.09.09 at 5:48 am

Hi Alan, I like the idea of a Badge, but I don’t have a creative staff to design it for me, unfortunately. But I’ll see what I can do. :)
Maria

Lori 09.09.09 at 6:52 am

Wow! I won! You like me! You really do!

Thanks to all who nominated and voted for my blog. And thanks very much to you, Maria, for offering up your blog for such a contest. It feels good to do what I love doing every day and be rewarded by peers in such a way!

I totally agree with inclusion of The Urban Muse. What a great blog Susan has going!

The Adventurous Writer 09.09.09 at 9:11 am

Maybe one of us should design a Badge…..I’m not nominating myself as I wouldn’t know how to start…..oh man, I’ve turned into one of those annoying people who suggest ideas for other people to run with….

;-)

Laurie

Alan 09.09.09 at 9:33 am

Maria – I might be able to put together a badge. :) Drop me an email if you’re interested and I’ll see what I can do.

Therese Walsh 09.09.09 at 1:08 pm

Thanks for including us on a wonderful list!

Nathan Bransford 09.09.09 at 5:03 pm

Thanks very much, I’m honored!

Matt'sgirl 09.10.09 at 7:11 am

Thanks for narrowing down the blogs for those of us who weren’t aware of the quality of writers on the web. Already loved Nathan Bransford’s blog, but most of them I didn’t even know existed. Plus, my fellow Editor Unleashed peers did the voting, so I know these must be worth a visit.

mariaschneider 09.10.09 at 8:22 am

@Nathan Bransford Your blog won by a landside. You have a well-loved blog going there, my friend.

Rabid 09.14.09 at 11:31 am

Thanks for this. My blogroll just got a little more crowded.

Cathy Thorne 10.26.09 at 12:03 pm

I hope you’ll consider my blog for review at a future date. I’m a 53 y/o burned out but still working 8-5 Executive Assistant. I’m working on a mystery novel (actually I have a couple in work) and have a recently discovered the joy of blogging about writing. I’ve signed up for my very first NaNoWriMo challenge and will be posting my progress and problems as I race to meet the November 30th deadline for my 50,000 word ‘first-draft’ of a novel.

Hope to see you there soon and feedback (even constructive criticism) is appreciated.
