Huey Lewis and the News. They’re not just the band that tells the story of my youth, they are the band that tells the story of my life. In the 80’s they were never exactly the “in” band, but if you listened to them you weren’t considered a total dork either. Flock of Seagulls, Dexys Midnight Runners and Soft Cell all flamed out early. Van Halen, Led Zeppelin and The Clash all disintegrated under the pressure of egos and excess. But Huey Lewis endured. Huey and the band always seemed comfortable in their skin; you never heard of them trying to “reinvent” themselves or make a “comeback”. Their tunes are often quirky, sometimes tongue-in-cheek and usually upbeat. That was me in a nutshell, and I don’t think I’ve changed all that much over the years.
